Archaeological Site Assessments
Archaeological assessments are used to determine the archaeological
potential and significance of sites - typically in response to a Development
Application. Our team can assess archaeological significance and provide
expert advice in relation to statutory requirements and industry best practice.
We have a proven track record for achieving realistic outcomes for clients.

Legislative Permit Applications
We have a strong track record in obtaining statutory approvals for
archaeological activities from both the Department of Environment and
Conservation and the NSW Heritage Office. We have a clear understanding of
the current legislation and interpretation and specialise in the provision of
tailored professional advise and permit applications my archaeological sites.

Archaeological Field Surveys
Kayandel has completed numerous surveys through New South Wales in vastly
different survey conditions from rugged catchment areas to suburban Sydney.
Kayandel staff are thoroughly trained in the various survey techniques utilised
in each varying landscape.
Kayandel has been involved in surveys for a wide range of clientele from large
corporate companies and government agencies to small developers.
In a majority of cases a survey is the first step in completing an
archaeological assessment. It is essential to complete surveys early in
the planning to allow for timely integration of results into the development
plan.

Archaeological Monitoring
In some instances a site or area may require monitoring by either an
Archaeologist or a Community Representative. Monitoring is seen as a means
to assist in works proceeding but also ensuring significant heritage items are
handled appropriately to reduced potential delays to the project.
All personnel engaged to complete these tasks are OH&S Green Card Holder and
experienced in working in an environment with heavy machinery.

Archaeological Excavations
Kayandel regularly completes archaeological excavation projects.
These can range in scope from small shovel/auger test pits to large open area
salvage excavations.
Excavations have the potential to be very costly, to maximise productivity and
minimise delays Kayandel employees a team of highly skilled and experienced
field archaeologists to assist with these project. Each individual
excavation also receives a thorough logistical analysis prior to commencement in
the field.
