NSW Department of Environment
and Conservation
The Department of Environment and Conservation (NSW) is the main government conservation agency in New South Wales, Australia.  It works towards a healthy environment cared for and enjoyed by the whole NSW community.  It also manages natural and cultural heritage across the state.

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is part of the Department of Environment and Conservation.  They strive to conserve the Aboriginal cultural landscape.

NSW Aboriginal Land Council
This website provides up-to-date information on the objective, services and activities of the New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council and its members and information on issues affecting Aboriginal people in New south Wales and around Australia.

 

NSW Heritage Office
The NSW Heritage Office is a State government agency based in Parramatta.  The work of the Heritage Office includes:

  • Working with communities to help them identify their important places and objects
  • Providing guidance on how to look after heritage items
  • Supporting community heritage projects through funding and advice
  • Maintaining the NSW Heritage Database, an online list of all statutory heritage items in NSW

NSW Department of Planning
NSW Department of Planning is a state agency that deals with Environmental Planning and Development in the state.  The New South Wales planning and assessment system is the means by which we manage our environment and use of resources.

Australian Archaeological Association
The Australian Archaeological Association is one of the largest archaeological organisations in Australia, representing a diverse membership of professionals, students and others with an interest in archaeology.  It aims to:

  • Promote the advancement of archaeology
  • provide an organisation for the discussion and dissemination of information and ideas
  • convene meetings at regular intervals
  • publicise the work of the Association

Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists Inc.
The Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists Inc. is an organisation for professionals working in all fields or contract and public archaeology.  It aims to upholds and promote the discipline and to advance the welfare of members.

 

 

Australasian Institute of Maritime Archaeology Inc.
The Australian Institute for Maritime Archaeology is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation of underwater cultural heritage, and the promotion of maritime archaeology conducted in accordance with internationally accepted ethical standards.  Whilst based in Australia it has sponsored work throughout Australia, Asia and the Indian and Pacific Ocean Regions.

 

Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology
The Australian Society for Historical Archaeology was founded in 1970 to promote the study of historical archaeology in Australia.  In 1991 the Society extended to include New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region generally.

 

Australian Rock Art Research Association
The Australian Rock Art Research Association Inc. was founded in 1983 and within five years became the worlds largest rock art organisation.  AURA's membership pf rock art scholars is dedicated to the study and preservation rock art in Australia and the world, and to the promotion of indigenous custodianship of traditional indigenous cultural heritage.  AURA also promotes general awareness and appreciation of this heritage, in Australia and elsewhere, and high research standards in the field of palaeo-art studies.
